  • Marius Gilbert
    Opening of the conference:     Sciences at the policy-communication nexus during the COVID pandemic

    Marius Gilbert is a researcher in epidemiology at the Université libre de Bruxelles. He is the head of the Spatial Epidemiology Laboratory (SpELL) and a research director at the “Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique” (FNRS, Brussels, Belgium). Marius has broad interests in the spatial epidemiology of animal diseases and invasive species. An overarching theme is the attempt to better understand how changes in agriculture and ecosystems have affected the conditions of emergence, spread and persistence of pathogens, including those with pandemic potential. His main area of expertise includes the epidemiology of avian influenza, emerging infectious diseases, global changes in livestock production systems, and livestock distribution models. During the COVID pandemic, he joined the Expert Group on the Exit Strategy (GEES) that was assembled by the prime minister Sophie Wilmes to advise the government on the lockdown exit strategy.
     
    François Roger
    Gareth Davies lecture (closing of the conference):      Contribution of epidemiology to the sustainable development of Global South

    François Roger is CIRAD's Regional Director and the representative of INRAE and Agreenium in Southeast Asia. François Roger is a veterinarian and epidemiologist, with a degree in microbiology from the Institut Pasteur. He has worked for more than 20 years in sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Asia and the Indian Ocean as a researcher and research unit director. He has developed interdisciplinary health networks in the field of emerging and endemic diseases using and adapting the concepts of "One Health" and "EcoHealth".
